DO NOT follow the map directions. go Harbor to Laning, Laning to Historic Decatur, turn RIGHT and go many blocks to 2400. it's pretty much due east of Trader Joe's.

I write the above, because "following the flawed map," getting lost, and becoming frustrated will deny you a real find...unless you absolutely require table service.

the menu should be studied. options abound. suggestion: there are green paper menus immediately inside the doorway. check one out and then move up to the order window and ask questions.

our first time there, i ordered the "special" pork sandwich (on ciabatta? well, whatever the name, on give-me-more bread) with salad. there are several salads choices...i think they're called "simple salads".

she ordered grilled chicken (no bread-she's gluten whatever) with a tarragon-dressed "simple" salad and mashed potatoes.

AND key lime cheesecake. it was a special dessert that day listed at the register. we split that after our meal with a cup of the individually brewed coffee.

we took their special soup for the day (a hugely chunky, delicious vegetable concoction) home for a dinner side-show.

was it good? well, we went back 2 days later. she now says "do not order the Chinese chicken salad. it's defective in a number of ways."

i say: 2 special sandwich plates and no complaints.

next time,she'll try the grilled vegetable plate. the mushrooms and asparagus interest her.

next time, i say, we'll sit on one of the sunny San Diego patios. (she says: under one of the umbrellas)

ps: excellent beers and root beers. wait staff superb!
