Straightforward seafood perfectly done

Oceanaire's philosophy seems to be to get the freshest, best quality food, and prepare it simply and perfectly. It's a policy that I appreciate as too many restaurants have clever, novel menus, but fall short on execution. People forget that there's beauty in simplicity.

Take the crab cakes, for example. It's not doctored with lots of filler. It's just crab barely held together with sauce, and dressed with butter -- pure essence of crab. And that's the way it should be. Oceanaire's crab cakes are so good that they make almost all others seem like failures in comparison.

This care in execution extends to all the other dishes I've tried there also. Their Mahi Mahi in a soy beurre blanc was perfectly cooked -- delicate, tender, with a tasteful sauce that doesn't overpower the fish. Even their mashed potatoes are wonderful, creamy, and decadent.

I've enjoyed their desserts as well. The big event desssert is the Baked Alaska, a mound of ice cream covered with meringue. The waiter sets a cup of Grand Marnier on fire and pours a flaming stream over the Baked Alaska. It's quite a spectacle, and it's delicious as well.
