Alas, Gotham City Pizza is no more. They made what I thought was the best pizza in San Diego (yes, better than Bronx and Luigi's).
The good news is that the New Jersey native owners have morphed Gotham City's space into Giorgino's Deli. They still make what is probably the most authentic cheesesteak in San Diego -- thin-sliced steak topped with gooey white american cheese stuffed into an Amoroso roll. I also love their sub sandwiches, especially the meatball sub.
They've also added some new items to the menu like buffalo wings and more specialty sandwiches like Taylor pork rolls. The buffalo wings are very nice; they're crisp with a nice balance between savory, sour, and spicy.
I tried my first Taylor pork roll sandwich today. Apparently it's a staple NJ breakfast food. The Taylor pork is a mild sausage sliced like bologna. The pork is served in a roll with cheese and a fried egg. It's like an Egg McMuffin, except it's better.
The website says that they are planning on bringing back pizza sometime soon, but it will probably be Sicilian style rather than New York style.
