A sparkling gem in Clairemont. The Chinese Garden Restaurant has offered fresh simple Chinese-Mandarin cuisine to the neighborhood for 27 years! The buffet is small by today’s standards of the “super-buffet” (the ones that offer about a bazillion over-cooked-bland-random selections). Everything I tasted from the buffet was fresh just as you were ordering from the menu. Amazingly fresh and very tasty, the buffet is constantly maintained and it seems a new dish of food is brought out every five minutes or so. The sweet and sour chicken is REAL sweet and sour with crisp veggies. As a matter of fact every entre I tried was accompanied by crisp veggies. The soup is very well balanced in flavor and very hot. From the menu, The Kung Pao is real Kung Pao, the way it should be; intense and wonderful with onions, carrots, spice, peanuts, and chicken; LOADS of chicken – no random fillers just Kung-Pao the way it should be. Service is wonderfully attentive and graciously friendly. This is a must for the Kung-Pao crowd!
