The first time I went to Caffe Calabria, I ordered a double latte, and the pink-haired girl behind the counter said, "Your perfect latte is coming right up." I thought that she was being rather bold, but a minute later when she cheerfully announced, "Here is your perfect latte," I changed my tune.
I looked at the cup and saw the most beautiful latte I had ever seen in my young life. The foam was glossy and dense, and the pattern of the milk poured into the glass formed a little white heart framed in coffee foam.
The latte also tasted as great as it looked. It had a strong, but not bitter coffee flavor. The texture of the foam was creamy, and dense like the head on a pint of Guiness. It was truly an eye-opening experience.
I've gone to a lot of coffeehouses in San Diego since then, but none of them (although many make fine coffee products) have quite matched the beauty of Calabria's latte.
