Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and a weekend brunch is my favorite type of gathering. I like the casual relaxed atmosphere, the equally casual foods, and the idea of starting the day in the company of family and good friends. Then of course there’s the brunch beverages. My favorites are mimosas, Bloody Marys, and hot spiked apple cider, but Bellinis and other sparkling wine or champagne cocktails are also popular. Coffee drinks are perennial favorites, and Todd and Diane of White on Rice Couple show how to make both hot and cold Vietnamese style coffee, a perfect addition to the menu.

Brunch isn’t brunch without some tasty breads. Quick breads such as pancakes, muffins, scones, and biscuits are easy to make ahead and warm before serving. For inspiration, check out Nicole’s Whole Wheat Orange Spice Muffins at Pinch My Salt, Tea’s Lemon Blueberry Buckwheat Pancakes at Tea & Cookies, Susan’s Savory Cheese and Scallion Scones at Farmgirl Fare, or my mother’s Southern Pinch Biscuits at Andrea’s Recipes. Make sure you have plenty of jams, jellies, and marmalades on hand to smear on those tasty breads.

If you feel more adventurous, you can try some yeast breads such as sticky buns, croissants, or danish. Susan of Wild Yeast shows her technique with some perfect Cinnamon Rolls and Sticky Buns, Bea of La Tartine Gourmande demonstrates how to make beautiful French croissants, and Chuck and Angela of The Knead for Bread make a delicious Danish with Lime Curd and Marscapone Cheese.

No brunch is complete without egg dishes, and since eggs are so versatile it’s easy to be creative. Sea of Book of Yum shows her recipe for vegetarian gluten-free eggs Benedict, Lydia of The Perfect Pantry cooks up a tasty and easy Zucchini Frittata, Alanna of A Veggie Venture whips up her easy Baked Eggs in Cream with Spinach, and Joey of 80 Breakfasts makes beautiful Scrambled Eggs with Asparagus and Camembert.

Add some meat dishes such as smoked salmon and bagels or go Southern with some sausage gravy and biscuits, and top the meal off with plenty of fresh seasonal fruit and you’ll have a weekend brunch to remember.
