We’ve been getting some general cooking questions, and I thought it would be nice to share the answers in a new column I’m calling Ask FoodieView. Feel free to contact us with random food/cooking questions. If we know the answer, we’ll post it here.
Question:
What is Beau Monde seasoning? Is it similar to Old Bay?
Answer:
Beau Monde is a seasoning salt/spice blend made by the Spice Islands company. Spice Islands is a popular brand found in many major super markets. So the spice aisle of your local supermarket should be the first place to look for Beau Monde.
From descriptions, it seems like Beau Monde is not as spicy as Old Bay. It’s described as having hints of celery and onion.
If you can’t find it, you can try these recipes for approximating it (but reviewers have complained these contain too much cloves):

I use Beau Monde by Spice Islands in a lot of dishes. It is a mild tasty addtion to any dish that usually calls for either celery or onion or both. It is fabulous in stewed tomatoes, potato salad, and dips of course.
